HCR's Training and Education Programs
Research shows that poor communication is often the reason an
adverse medical event turns into a claim. HCR offers a number
of training and education programs designed to help physicians,
hospital staff and clinical personnel to improve their communications
skills and better manage difficult conversations and the emotions
that come with them. Some programs for physicians are designed
specifically to provide CME credits in risk management and patient
safety, as now required for physicians licensed in Pennsylvania.
Education programs
feature conflict management experts, mediators and clinical
communication experts, all highly trained and experienced in
their fields. Sessions are offered for both large and small
groups, from one-on-one coaching for difficult conversations
to large group seminars.
Training programs
are customized to meet the particular needs and goals of each
client and can be conducted on- or off-site. Training groups
can include health care facility clinical and administrative
staff, physicians and physician's office staff. A large part
of the training is role playing, with highly trained instructors
using this technique to transform difficult-to-pinpoint concepts
into concrete and practical tools. Topics include early intervention,
conflict management, adverse event disclosure and effective
communication with patients and their families.
