Early Intervention (EI) Programs
and Independent Ombuds Services
Early Intervention In-House
EI
is our pioneering program of proactive
claims management. EI works with your current claims management
system to help achieve faster and less costly resolution of
problems with patients when things go wrong. Progam design
and training of your in-house staff are key components of
HCR's EI Program.
Human-to-human conversation is EI's secret weapon. Direct
discussion between the patient and provider may be best, but
very often that is difficult. When it is, EI uses a neutral
third party to maintain civility and steer the parties to
an amicable resolution.
EI is just as much about preserving trust between patients
and providers as it is about keeping a lid on medical liability
costs. But the evidence shows that the more compassionate
approach of EI can result in substantial cost savings.
HCR can help by providing:
- EI program design and implementation.
- Training and resource materials.
- Independent, highly trained and experienced professionals
affiliated with HCR to serve as facilitators or mediators.
- Independent physician reviewers from all specialties affiliated
with HCR to assess potential claims for early resolution.
Early Intervention - Independent
Ombuds Service (IOS)
HCR offers a unique service to organizations which do not
have the internal resources to devote to develop an in-house
early intervention program. HCR's independent Ombuds Service
provides highly skilled and experienced neutrals "on-call"
to partner with, coach, and guide your staff when confronted
with challenges, adverse event disclosures, or ongoing communications
with patients and their families. HCR ombuds know how to work
with patients and families to identify their needs and concerns,
develop action plans to resolve them and bring the parties
together.
